Harling Premium English Water now triple-protected.

In a major overhaul of its water bottling set-up, The Norfolk Water Company has invested thousands of pounds in a system which is completely sealed from source to bottle, and is much more environment-friendly too.

As full members of the British Water Cooler Association, the source of Harling Premium English Water is regularly tested to ensure it is free from all harmful pollutants including the oocysts of the parasite Cryptosporidium.

The new system now features no fewer than three different filters to help ensure that this remains true all the way to the glass! The first removes any excess iron from the water. The second protects against particles to below 1 micron - this also adds a safeguard against Cryptosporidium oocysts as they are too large to pass through this size of filtration. The water then goes through a closely controlled process of ozonation, which gives another safeguard against unwanted bacteria before passing through the third and final 0.5 micron filter on its way to the filler head.

The result is water of the highest quality - pure and simple - and because the system is completely sealed from source to filler, there is no chance of external contamination occurring along the way.

Another major feature of the new set-up is the absence of a holding tank. This has several implications. First and foremost, it means no cleaning and descaling of the tank, and no risk of consequent chemical contamination. It also means less water wastage; a holding tank has to be drained for regular cleaning. And of course, it means that water is never left standing over weekends and holidays – every drop is bottled directly from the source.

Finally, because much less aggressive cleaning is required, much more environmentally friendly products can be used – and the bi-products of the process are oxygen and water.
